NEW LEAF NEWS began in Summer 2008 as a 2-page green supplement in the Carronvale Neighbourhood News of Dunipace. After successful negotiations, NEW LEAF NEWS joined forces with the Environment Action Network email newsletter (EAN) previously edited by Falkirk Environment Trust (FET)’s Development Manager Art Berg.
Who We Are… The EAN Newsletter traditionally provided Central Scotland readers with easy access to environmental activities, funding guidelines, environmental training and resources, and gained an international readership. NEW LEAF NEWS started in 2008 through a grant from Earlsburn Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund, to report on the Green Dog Walkers project and other news from Community Green Initiative. By combining the two newsletters, the readership and content for both has greatly increased overnight. NEW LEAF NEWS now better serves both online and print-based readership in the Falkirk District area and beyond.
What’s in These Pages... As Denny is in a process of regeneration, and the twin communities of Denny and Dunipace are involved in serious work to clean up and refurbish footpaths, green spaces and waterways, we initially seek out their upbeat and life-enhancing news and updates on local green issues. We also seek to include news from a broader scope. To that end, NEW LEAF NEWS features a free community bulletin board, EAN’s news from Central Scotland and other parts of the UK, FET funding information and international green initiatives. We welcome upbeat, life-enhancing news and updates on local environmental issues, and interviews with local green-minded individuals, schools, groups and businesses from Bonnybridge, Larbert, Camelon, Bo’Ness, Falkirk, Grangemouth, Skinflats, Bothkennar and any other communities in Falkirk District.
Our Support... Earlsburn Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund financed Volume I, 2008-2009 NEW LEAF NEWS; Falkirk Environment Trust funded the print version of Volume II for 2009-2010; Earlsburn Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund funded 2010-2011 and is funding 2011-2012. Although primarily an online newsletter at this time for environmental reasons, we will continue to publish up to 1000 black-and-white copies of NLN each quarter for those who do not have computer access. We also welcome advertisers and donations. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for advertising rates, donations to the worthy cause of spreading GOOD GREEN NEWS, and if you would like to help distribute free copies in your area (library, one stop shop, community centre, etc.)
A note of thanks goes to Greenvoice.com who generously hosted our online version for the Spring 2009 and Summer 2009 issues. Please visit them at greenvoice.com to find out about the many green campaigns in action there, to join a few and start your own!
